With all the new technology around us,

I’m drawn to exploring what it really means to be human.

ScenesinLife is a series of short, poetic portraits of people

my friend Jasmin and I have met around the world.

Mariia welcomed us into her studio at Nahirna.
@nahirna22 is a large building in Kyiv filled with artists’ studios. Two weeks before we arrived, it had been struck by a Russian missile. Not long after we returned to Denmark, it was hit again.

Mariia spoke about her back problems, worsened by the constant stress of the war. In her paintings she works with a form of self-portraiture. Large, emotional canvases carrying bits of her own experiences.
Thank you for your openness,
@mariadrobot

Max

Ukraine, Kyiv, November 2024 📍

We randomly met Max at an exhibition in Kyiv. He told us how he was mobilized by the military just weeks before we met him.
One day, while taking out the trash, the police approached him. With pizza boxes still in his hands, he sat in the back of the police car and was driven to the station, where he filled out the paperwork.

This is Max — already mobilized, not yet a soldier.

KESER1

Ukraine, Kyiv, November 2024 📍

We met Nikita — or
@keser.one — a graffiti artist known for his political statements sprayed next to his tag K1.
Beyond his own art, he runs Flowerbed Gallery, a small space in Kyiv supporting young Ukrainian artists.

While in Ukraine, he’s been a great help connecting us with the local creative scene.

What Makes you Proud?

Ukraine, Kyiv, September 2025 📍

We asked people to answer the same question while looking into the camera.
Here’s their interpretation of the first question: “What makes you proud?”
